Mini-CHP Power Plants Based on ORC Turbines or ORC Technology

The group “LLC UGK-Energetics” is a developer, manufacturer, and supplier of Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) power plants of Russian production.

We supply modular, containerized ORC units (power plants) branded as “NEUTRON-ORC” with an electrical capacity of 500 kW to 25 MW and stationary ORC units with a capacity of up to 100 MW (in cascade).

“NEUTRON-ORC” power plants are designed to generate low-cost electricity from various energy sources:

  • Combustion of natural gas, associated petroleum gas, and gas condensate;
  • Combustion of liquid or solid types of organic fuel, including MSW, MSW;
  • Combustion of coal fuel, wood waste (biomass), sunflower husks, and other types;
  • Heat from the exhaust gases of gas piston and gas turbine power plants;
  • Waste heat (steam, hot water, hot oil) obtained after technological processes in the industry;
  • Residual heat (steam, hot water, hot oil) from the operation of industrial boilers;
  • Heat energy of condensate at boiler houses and power plants;
  • Geothermal sources, underground waters.

The working process of converting low-potential heat is based on the principle of the Rankine cycle (ORC or ORC technology turbines of Russian production).

The distinctive feature of the working cycle of our installation is the presence of two circuits: a heat pump circuit on refrigerant R600a and an ORC turbine circuit (Working fluid – EleGas). This design eliminates the need for cooling the working fluid of the second circuit through heat dissipation in the atmosphere, as the condensation of the working fluid occurs inside a special condensation turbine. The torque developed on the ORC turbine impeller is transmitted via a coupling to the shaft of an asynchronous alternating current generator.

“NEUTRON-ORC” power plants are produced as a complete power plant in a technological container based on the ORC turbo-generator, with a control panel, an automatic switch for parallel operation with other units and/or with the network, and a heat exchanger system with circulation pumps. All equipment is a single finished module, working in full interconnection of all elements according to a unique technological program under the control of an industrial controller.

The amount of heat required for the working cycle in various modes is regulated by changing the flow rate of the utilized warm water supplied to the turbine heat exchanger inlet using an electronically controlled pump.

ORC units (hereinafter – Neutron-ORC) are in demand and are actively used for energy supply in various fields: strategic and military facilities, infrastructure, agriculture, industry, oil and gas sector, telecommunications, social facilities, shopping and entertainment centers, HoReCa segment (hotels/restaurants/cafes), small business, urban and municipal economy, and others.

“NEUTRON-ORC” power plants are one of the most modern types of energy-generating equipment, surpassing existing types of generators: gas piston, gas turbine, and in terms of consumer properties: environmental friendliness, efficiency, economy, and reliability. The ability to use a wide range of fuels with different composition characteristics makes “NEUTRON-ORC” indispensable in solving problems of electricity generation and human life support.

Advantages:

  • “NEUTRON-ORC” power plants are a technological container, an environmentally friendly system requiring minimal maintenance for electricity production. The turbine-driven generator, integrated with the electronic control system, allows generating high-quality electricity in the required volume for the consumer.
  • “NEUTRON-ORC” ORC units can be used for energy supply of various types of facilities, which optimizes costs and increases the reliability of energy supply to facilities. “NEUTRON-ORC” can be used as the main, additional, or backup energy source, work in parallel with the network, or in standalone mode.
  • Several “NEUTRON-ORC” power plants can be combined into a single energy complex to meet energy needs and increase reliability through cable connection.
  • “NEUTRON-ORC” power plants can use various heat sources, exhaust gases, waste heat, and standardized gaseous and liquid types of carbonaceous raw materials to generate low-cost electricity.

Advantages of energy centers based on ORC Cycle turbines:

HIGH ECONOMIC EFFICIENCY

Payback of investments on average 1-3 years, project profitability over 30%, the cost of electricity generation below network tariffs ~ from 1.5 rubles per 1 kW (depending on the heat source or gas cost).

HIGH ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND ENERGY SAVINGS

Achieving a maximum efficiency coefficient of 58.6% due to the presence of two circuits: a heat pump circuit on refrigerant R600a and an ORC turbine circuit (working fluid – EleGas). This design eliminates the need for cooling the working fluid of the second circuit through heat dissipation in the atmosphere, as the condensation of the working fluid occurs inside a special condensation turbine.

HIGH RELIABILITY

Due to internal redundancy, modularity, the possibility of backup from the centralized network.

LOW OPERATIONAL COSTS

The need for maintenance no more than once every 4000 hours, the resource before major repairs – 80,000 hours.

SCALABILITY, MODULARITY, COMPACTNESS, MOBILITY

A wide range of capacities from 500 kW to 25,000 kW. Small size, delivery in blocks of the required power, the possibility of quickly connecting additional blocks to an already operating station, thereby increasing the power of the power plant.

SHORT COMMISSIONING PERIODS

The average commissioning period for the power plant is from 4 months, depending on capacity, from the moment of advance payment and contract signing.

HIGH DEGREE OF AUTOMATION

Possibility of operation in automatic mode, does not require the constant presence of maintenance personnel, possibility of remote control and monitoring.

“NEUTRON-ORC” Power Plant:

Designed for the generation of three-phase alternating current electricity with a voltage of 0.4; 6, and 10.5 kV, frequency 50 Hz; primary switching, ensuring the connection of “NEUTRON-ORC” to consumer loads. Used as an autonomous power source.

The ORC generator module included in “NEUTRON-ORC” is a compact ORC turbine electricity generator capable of operating on various types of fuel, gas, including associated petroleum gas (APG), exhaust gases, diesel, synthesis gas from processing various waste MSW, MSW, low-grade coals in plasma reactors, and ensuring reliable start and operability in any climatic and geographical conditions.
